Artificial intelligence company Anthropic is expanding its focus to smaller firms with the launch of Claude for Small Business, a new suite of services aimed at customers ranging from local retailers to independent cafés, according to company announcements.
The move reflects a broader shift in AI adoption trends, which have historically been concentrated among large enterprises with significant budgets. However, recent studies indicate that small and mid-sized businesses are increasingly beginning to adopt AI tools beyond experimental or pilot stages.
Anthropic’s new offering is designed to cater to this growing segment, with features accessible through a newly introduced toggle within Claude Cowork, the company’s task automation platform for business users. The platform enables functions such as web browsing, file management and execution of multi-step workflows on behalf of users.
With the feature activated, paying users gain access to a range of automated services including bookkeeping, business insights and generative tools for advertising campaigns. The suite also includes integrations with widely used software platforms such as QuickBooks, Canva, DocuSign, HubSpot and PayPal.
The company stated that small businesses account for 44% of the United States’ GDP and employ nearly half of the private-sector workforce, but their adoption of AI has lagged behind larger enterprises due to a lack of tailored tools and training, often limiting usage to basic chat interfaces.
The development signals a shift in the competitive landscape of AI platforms, with companies increasingly targeting the small business segment rather than focusing solely on large corporations. The market includes an estimated 36 million small businesses in the United States, representing a significant opportunity for user acquisition.
Anthropic is entering a space where competitors have already made inroads. OpenAI, for instance, introduced Enterprise ChatGPT in late 2023, along with a ChatGPT Business offering designed for smaller teams.
As part of its strategy to drive adoption, Anthropic is planning a nationwide promotional tour across 10 cities, beginning in Chicago. The initiative will include free AI training workshops at each location, with participation capped at 100 local small business leaders per event.
