Among tech startups, there is no longer any debate over the most important AI tool for programmers: Anthropic's Claude Code has rightfully become the top choice.
Tests by dozens of founders and investors, along with monitoring of internal workflows at several companies, show that Claude Code quickly surpassed competing tools, particularly in complex engineering tasks and workflow automation, according to a report. Business Insider.
The CEO of a cybersecurity firm summed it up: “Our plan for the coming period is to reduce all software tools and rely solely on Claude Code,” noting that the shift in programming tools closely resembles the transition from manual tools to advanced production lines.
Why did Claude Code sweep the competition?
The fundamental change was that Claude Code is not limited to helping programmers write code or fix bugs; it is now capable of logical reasoning, review, engineering design, and unifying work on very complex projects.
Some founders confirm that what used to require an entire team is now accomplished by a single AI, and some have even begun avoiding OpenAI's tools due to concerns over privacy and monopolistic policies.
At a tech company specializing in security, the team had to deal with a video system issue during Zoom meetings. Instead of calling technical support, they gave Claude Code system access, and it identified the problem and recommended a solution in under half an hour, saving hours of work and potentially thousands of dollars.

Where did the competitors go?
Platforms like Cursor, which until recently were described as the future of generative programming, are rapidly losing ground to more advanced tools. As for Microsoft's GitHub Copilot, it is no longer mentioned in core discussions within these companies.
Despite this dominance, many tech teams integrate multiple solutions depending on the type of work: Claude for programming, Codex for review, Gemini for documentation or other tasks.
Today, the choice of smart tools is based on the required technical depth, not on name or popularity.
The bottom line
The bet in the tech market is no longer just on AI that “writes code,” but on intelligent solutions that enable full automation of product building and management stages, making software engineering a faster and more advanced process.
And while some tools are losing their popularity (such as Cursor and Copilot), Claude Code continues to make revolutionary progress in the programming world.
